'I started sketching jewelry and the idea for RIVERSTONES was born. '

As a young girl, I loved to be creative and to hang upside down from the monkey bars. Around the age of eight I lost my heart to figure skating and when I finished high school I was able to realize my biggest dream: to skate in a show like Holiday on Ice. And in Mexico of all places. All in all, an unforgettable experience, and a big check off my bucket list. Back in Holland I started the sports academy in Amsterdam (ALO). I taught sports lessons for a while. But I felt it wasn't for me and decided to go to Bali for a few weeks to unwind and think about what I wanted with my life. Once I settled, my creative side resurfaced. I started sketching jewelry and the idea for Riverstones was born. A year later I went back and came home with an entire jewelry collection in my suitcase! Our collection is still handmade in Asia.

'The BEAUTY of silence inspires me'

It all started with the pineapple bracelet. My first bestseller. However, I found out more and more that in addition to wanting women to look beautiful when they wear our jewelry, I also wanted to add a certain meaning. Living in Amsterdam for a couple of years I experienced that trying to keep up with the pace of city life can become quite overwhelming. A lot of the time I felt rushed to keep up with other people chasing their dreams and pressurized to strive for perfection. By consciously planning moments of silence in my daily life, I was able to relax both physically and mentally. This made it easier to listen to my intuition and get in touch with my own energy. And that is what I want for all women wearing Riverstones jewels. 'Finding beauty in the rush of life' is what it's all about as far as I'm concerned.

The jewelry symbolizes a MEANING, a message, or a memory of a precious moment.

Inspiration comes from everywhere, but I've found over the years that the best ideas come to me during moments of silence. When I am in a yoga class or take a walk along the beach my energy starts flowing and the ideas for new designs come naturally. Through silence, it is easier to see the beauty within yourself, but also around you. And I see that in the liveliness of the city. The beauty of the buildings, the undiscovered squares, the greenery of the parks and the great diversity of people are also a great source of inspiration for me. In the combination of silence and that vibrancy, I find the perfect balance.
